How We Got Our New House

This whole barter thing’s not as far-fetched as it may seem. Last month, as part of his business, Andy and I went out to a house that Marc Hoffmann, owner of Lakes Area Home Buyers was trying to barter through Boomerang. It was really gorgeous and I was jealous of whoever was going to get to live there. Out of curiosity, I opened the refrigerator. There, sitting in front of a bottle of my favorite champagne, was a card that said, “Welcome home, Nora.”

Confused, I opened the card. Inside, it read, “On one condition.” I turned around, and Andy was down on one knee. That’s how he asked me to marry him. He had bought the house — on trade — for us!

A few days after we moved in, Marc stopped by to see how we were doing and to tell me a little more about how he went about selling a house through barter.

I always thought of bartering as trading services or products, but I still don’t understand how boomerang works. How does the average person earn boomerang dollars and especially enough to purchase a home? Is this just for business owners?

I am confused about the barter thing? Sounds like you simply paid for it like everyone else does.

      Hey Rob,

Great question. We pay the participants their retail price using Boomerang Trade Dollars. Because we are bartering with our participants, Trade Dollars are used in lieu of cash as a form of payment and one Trade Dollar has the same value as one U.S dollar. Participants earn Trade Dollars by selling their goods/services to other participants.

Ok, so they get Trade Dollars. How would we do that? Does Boomerang actually complete the trade for whomever?

        • andyculver says:

Thank you for your question. Boomerang helps facilitate trades by promoting the goods and services of our members via email and phone.

Only an approved business may earn Boomerang Trade dollars by selling their goods/services to other Boomerang members.
